However, because men can never be silent, we distort and reduce the infinite world to contain it in our imperfect language. Sometimes, we forget about the imperfectness of language and fool ourselves into believing that the world created by our language is perfect. By working on and one after another, I raised a question about language and lexical knowledge. In this series of work, the veil-covered image symbolizes the silent objects and the limit of human perception that can only know the name of the objects but not their true essence. As the numerous names on the veil indicate, I tried to express the fact that what we know and speak is not the essence of an object but only a name (language).
그러나 인간은 침묵할 수 없으며, 무한의 세계를 불완전한 유한의 세계에 담기 위해 왜곡하고 축소할 수밖에 없다. 때로 우리는 그러한 사실을 망각하고 언어와 언어로 이루어진 세계가 완전하다는 착각에 사로잡히곤 한다. <Name of Object>와 <Portrait of Words> 회화 연작을 통해 언어와 사전적 지식에 대해 의문을 제기하였다. 이 연작에서 베일을 쓴 이미지는 침묵하는 사물을 표상하며 존재의 이름만 알 뿐 본질은 알 수 없는 인간 인식의 한계를 상징한다. 베일의 표면을 가리키는 무수한 ‘이름’들이 나타내듯이 우리가 알고 말하는 것은 사물의 본질이 아니라 이름(언어)뿐이라는 사실을 표현하고자 한다.
