Portraits of Poets 시인의 초상 2007
Like martyrs who devote their lives to religion, writers dedicate their whole lives to art and intellectualism. Particularly, it is the poets who describe the world through extremely refined language, and I portrayed them enveloped in a halo. I've wrapped the heart (emotion), the brain (reason), the eye (vision), and books (language) with the poet’s language, the poems. The halo of language, flowing from the artistry of the poet has the identical symbolism as the golden halo (glory) used in Christianity for representing saints.
종교적 삶에 생명을 바치는 순교자들처럼 예술과 정신적 삶에 평생을 투신하는 문학가들, 특히 극도로 정제된 언어로 세계를 묘파하는 시인들을 후광에 둘러싸인 초상으로 표현했다. 시인들의 내적 상태를 드러내고 상징하는 심장(감성)이나 뇌(이성), 눈(시각), 책(언어) 등을 시인들의 시, 즉 그들의 언어로 감쌌다. 시인들의 예술성에서 흘러넘치는 언어의 후광과 기독교에서 성인을 나타내는 금빛 후광(영광)은 동일한 상징성을 지닌다.
