Since people are incomplete beings, everything belonging to the people also involves incompleteness. Particularly, because of the incompleteness of languages, acknowledgement, and memory, the desire for fierce linguistic instinct often cause conflicts rather than being satisfied. A language passes a subjective thought process. Thus, it accompanies uncertainty and limitation of communication. Through the <READING> work, the process of the original significance being gradually dropped and partially and fragmentally being communicated is visualized. ⓐ The sentence structure is dismantled and words are segmented to turn the texts as an object. ⓑ By projecting the process of contents and feelings of previously-read book being remained as one image in the memory, the texts are turned into an image. ⓒ The books are sealed inside bottles and reconstructed. It exhibits a course of the objectively-shared knowledge and information being privatized subjectively through the experience of reading. ⓓ By selectively eliminating the nouns or postpositions in the literary works, I attempted to approach the essence of language beyond the historic and cultural contexts. Through a series of work, by giving fragmental forms to the books and texts with flat form, I attempted to reveal the multilateral and three-dimensional activities of human mind.
인간은 불완전한 존재이기에 인간에 속한 모든 것 역시 불완전함을 내포하고 있다. 특히 언어와 인식, 기억의 불완전함으로 인하여, 언어본능의 욕구가 충족되기보다는 부정적인 대립만 초래하곤 한다. 주관적인 사고과정을 거쳐 사용되는 언어의 불명확성과 소통의 한계 때문에 본래의 의미가 점차로 탈락되고 부분적, 단편적으로 커뮤니케이션 되는 과정을 시각화 하였다. 문장 구조를 해체하고 단어들을 분절하여 텍스트를 오브제화 하였으며, 이전에 읽었던 책의 내용과 느낌이 기억 속에서 하나의 이미지, 심상으로만 남는 과정을 형상화하여 텍스트를 이미지화 하였다. 또한 객관적으로 공유되는 지식과 정보가 독서의 경험을 통해 주관적으로 사유화되는 과정을 보여주고자 책을 병 속에 봉인하고 재구성하였다. 또한 문학작품의 명사 혹은 조사만을 선별적으로 제거하여 역사적, 문화적 맥락을 초월하는 언어의 본질에 다가가고자 하였다. 이러한 일련의 작업으로써 평면적 형태를 가진 책과 텍스트에 조각적인 형태를 부여하여, 인간정신의 다각적이고 입체적인 활동을 드러내고자 한다.

I separated individual images from a magazine regardless of the context, cut themout, and made them three-dimensional. Magazines are an informative media thatis consumed every day without any critical consideration. Being overwhelmed byvisual stimuli, rather than rational judgment, we only remember our desires,what we want to see and what we want to remember, removing the individuality ofeach magazine. Numerous images fill the magazine, revealing only the commonpurpose and image of consumption and desire. Each symbol remaining only as animage divorced from its text shows the reduced weight of existence. I wanted toquestion the empty nature of information as it is blindly collected andconsumed regardless of the complex existential context. I also hoped to revealthe limitation of fragmental incompleteness of mass media, which boldlyattempts to capture the world of today.
일상적, 무비판적으로 소비하고 있는 정보 매체인 잡지에서 맥락을 제거하고 낱낱의 이미지만 분리하여 오려내고 입체화하였다. 이성적 판단보다는 시각적 자극에 압도되어 우리의 욕구, 보고 싶은 것, 기억하고 싶은 것만이 선별되어 뇌리에 남으며, 각 잡지의 개별성은 사라지고 만다. 잡지에서 쏟아져 나오는 수많은 이미지들이 뒤엉키며 소비와 욕망이라는 공통의 목적과 이미지만이 선명하게 드러난다. 텍스트가 제거되고 이미지로 남은 사태의 기표들은 존재의 감소된 실존적 무게를 보여준다. 복잡한 실존적 정황은 배제된 채, 무비판적으로 단순하게 수집되거나 혹은 소비되는 정보의 비본질성에 의문을 제기하며, 세계의 현재를 담아내고 있는 매스미디어의 단편적이고 파편적인 한계성을 드러내고자 하였다.
Orgasm of Reading 독서지락 讀書至樂
I equate the mental pleasure and joy that can be felt by reading the works of literary giants, getting a taste of their sophisticated mental world to physical orgasm. The physical bodies of the writers are mortal, but their spirits are immortal in their literary work. They communicate with their readers on an eternal, profound level through their writing. Such mental empathy allows us to taste such pleasure that nothing else in the world compares.
정신적 거인들이 남긴 문학작품을 통해 그들의 깊고 높은 정신세계와 교감하면서 느끼는 정신적 기쁨과 쾌감을 육체적 오르가즘에 비유하였다. 문학가들의 육체는 유한하지만 그들의 정신은 문학작품을 통해 불멸한다. 문학가들은 그들의 책을 읽는 독자들과 영원하고도 심원한 정신적 교접을 나눈다. 그들과의 정신적 교접은 세상 무엇과도 비길 수 없는 지락至樂을 맛보게 한다.
